Good morning class and Mr AdamsThe opinion piece Animals Australia captures sickening images of live export bloodbath at Middle East Festival of Sacrifice NEXT SLIDE from The Daily Telegraph written by Neil Keene on the 13th of October 2015 regards the mistreatment of Australian sheep at the Festival of Sacrifice in the Middle East TERM 2
DEFINITION 2 NEXT SLIDE Overall Keene uses a serious and restrained tone to persuade the general public that the poor, brutal treatment of our Australian livestock overseas is preventable. Keene tends to focus on the treatment of the animals in the article by using strong persuasive techniques. He wants the general community and all animal lovers to know what is happening to Australian livestock overseas and how they are being treated. TERM 3
DEFINITION 3 NEXT SLIDE The first main argument that Keene focuses on is that the treatment towards our livestock in overseas countries is cruel and brutal. He starts with a calm but authoritative tone to persuade the reader of the treatment towards our livestock. TERM 4
DEFINITION 4 When he states the Australian public has every right to be outraged because the brutality inflicted on thousands of Australian sheep Using words like Australian public and Australian positions readers to feel that it would be disloyal to our country to disagree with him. It also arouses guilt and maybe anger in the reader. TERM 5
DEFINITION 5 This technique he used is appeal to patriotism. He also uses evidence by inserting words that the chief investigator of Animals Australia, Lyn white claimed. He wrote that she said these animals would have been literally cooking alive from the inside out and Our investigators found barely conscious sheep sheep in car boots who had been there for hours, in 48C heat.
By using the words from Ms White it provides him with credibility and he also makes it clear that the treatment to the animals is cruel. Keene wants to prove that there is cruel and bad things that are happening to our Australian sheep overseas. NEXT SLIDE TERM 7
DEFINITION 7 Keene started with an even tone, but shifts to a more forceful and passionate tone when mentioning what happens to the livestock at The Festival Of Sacrifice using words such as carcass and slaughter. He emphasises on the fact that Australian livestock that are exported to live in the Middle East are meant to be looked after with humane treatment. TERM 8
DEFINITION 8 With the use of evidence it makes the piece more credible as apparently it is supported by experts. This is shown when he says Animals Australia chief investigator Lyn White. The use of chief investigator makes it seem as if Ms White it a seriously important expert that should mean she is correct in what she says. TERM 9
DEFINITION 9 Keene inserts something that Ms White said that also evidence so he can skew his argument in one direction. She says there have been widespread and deliberate abuse of up to 10,00 she sold for the festival. Keene used this extract in order to skew his argument in one way so the reader would agree with him. DEFINITION 10 By using words like bloodbath and prosecute he emphasises that animal cruelty involving our livestock that has been exported to the Middle East has renewed calls to prosecute offenders within the local live export industry. This clearly finishes his argument convincingly that the Festival Sacrifice is killing our Australian livestock and it needs to stop. NEXT SLIDE

DEFINITION 17 The Cartoon I have decided to use isn't apart of the article I am speaking on. It was created by Mark Knight and posted into the Herald Sun. CLICK It shows four farmers entering a slaughter cage in Indonesia where we have been sending some of our livestock. The farmers faces are quite shocked in the image which shows us how the animals that are in their positions might feel. CLICK TERM 18
DEFINITION 18 The red colour on the ground and the walls and the clothes of the Indonesians represents blood. This highlights how this trade of our livestock is really a bloody business. CLICK One of the workers is saying Instead of shipping us live beef the Australian government are sending their farmers to the slaughter. TERM 19
DEFINITION 19 This shows that the government are making work hard for Australian farmers who would send their cattle or sheep over for export. TERM 20
DEFINITION 20 It is clearly showing what the government is doing to not only the livestock Australia is sending over to other countries but also what they are doing to the farmers that provide these countries with the livestock. NEXT SLIDE
Neil Keene uses a persuasive, authoritative, passionate and concerned tone to get his message across and she does this by giving evidence and reason on how our livestock are being treated, and what needs to be done to restrict another bloodbath like what happened in The Middle East at Eid al- Aldha otherwise known as the Festival of Sacrifice. DEFINITION 22 He uses persuasive techniques in order for the reader to feel guilt towards the treatment of the sheep and that something needs to be done to change it. He also uses credibility in order to skew the argument to show that the treatment of the livestock is brutal and savage. Thank you
