The short non-fiction text “The Book of My Life” by Aleksandar Hemon is about a student talking about
his professor. The story starts with a pleasant image of the professor teaching well in the class, and the
students who like the way his professor teaches him. The character that is being described in the text is
the teacher and here we can see the student’s emotions about his teacher who joins SDS and has a
wicked leader. The writer brings the character to life by stating his physical appearance with his long
fingers and short height. We can see the actions of the character changing over time. Most of the
thoughts are based on the student thinking about his professor. Lastly, the story ends with an action in
which the professor kills the protagonist who killed many lives. “His long finger having trembled on the
unwieldy finger.”
“Malice” by S. Brook Corfman is a poem about the feelings of the author. The word Malice means to do
something bad. Here, the author is expressing violence and wants someone to get punished. “There is a
malice in the world, and maybe some of it is ours now.” This line describes the character with rage and
revenge. This poem has run-on lines which are unrhymed and has a slow tempo.
