Consulted with club coordinators to

get to know our population before

meeting them

focusing on the specific

developmental milestones for this

age group.

Community Diagnosis

Deficient knowledge r/t lack of exposure AEB verbalizing

incorrect answers or inability to answer questions

Risk for loneliness r/t social isolation caused by COVID-

stay at home orders

Intervention Action

● Developed open discussion/dialogue

workshops

○ Utilized videos and powerpoints

and other visuals during

discussions

Topics varied from Nutrition,

Self Care/Mental Health, to

Injury Prevention

Used therapeutic communication

and education to create trust/safe

space for students

progress/success and needs of

Summary and

Conclusions

● Established a partnership between

UMass Amherst College of Nursing and

UMass extension 4-H youth

development program

● Developed open discussions/dialogues

on a variety of topics for a total of

seven workshops

● Empowered & educated students to

become leaders while reinforcing

healthy behaviors

● There were some challenges among

both groups in regard to finding topics

that interested the 4-H students

● A larger sample size would be required

to obtain more accurate information if

the students learned and enjoyed the

workshops
