Two rock bands from Seattle, Vaseline Dion and Malicious Milano, are planning a tour
of the western half of the country. Both bands are poor and travel on an old school bus,
so they want the total distance traveled to be as short as possible. The tour will start in
Seattle, visit each of the twelve cities listed below once, and return to Seattle. How many
miles is the shortest traveling salesman tour of these cities?
a) Draw a clear network (on the back of this page, if you wish).
b) Look up the distances between the cities (of the feasible connections) either on the
internet or in a road atlas.
c) Determine the (approximately) best tour.
d) Draw in the best tour on the network.
Cities: Boise, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles,
Minneapolis, Missoula, Phoenix, San Francisco and St. Louis
