Internet Development – COMP 250
Due Mon midnight, Feb 9
100 points
You are to create a website that incorporates all the subjects covered thus far in class. There are several key
requirements for your website, but otherwise you are encouraged to be very creative.
The entire website will reside on Taz in a directory called “website”. You may have any number of directories
under the “website” directory. The URL for your site will be http://taz.harding.edu/~username/website/.
The main page for your Web site will be called index.html.
Use meta tags for the description and author on the root page (index.html).
Use title tags with an appropriate title for every page.
You must have navigational links to the main pages of your website that reside on every page of your website.
The links should be placed in the same location and look consistent from page to page.
You must have at least one image that you have created yourself. You may use any application to create this
image, and you may make your image by modifying an image you found somewhere else. The image must
have your last name on it somewhere; you may want to make it very small and place it in an unobtrusive
location.
Your website must contain at least two tables. Use the tables any way you wish.
Use at least one list with a nested list inside it. The lists can be ordered or unordered.
Use alt attributes on all images.
Include your e-mail address on the main menu page as a link. Make sure your e-mail address is spelled out as
well in case the user’s browser is not configured to send e-mail.
One web page should use at least 3 internal links.
The entire site should use a single Cascading Style Sheet called styles.css for consistency of design. Define
and use at least 3 different text styles (different colors, fonts, sizes, etc.). Declare and use styles for the body
of all pages (color, font, background color, and un/visited and hover colors for links). Use CSS to provide at
least one example of each of the following: absolute positioning, z-index to order images and/or text, changing
link colors when hovering, and changing the border style.
Use an embedded style sheet on at least one page that provides additional styles or overrides styles from the
external style sheet. The embedded style sheet should use a background image for the page.
Your Web pages should be ascetically pleasing and allow efficient navigation through the site.
You may choose any subject for your website. Make a site about a hobby, your experience at Harding, a social
club, service club, campaign trip, class, church, hobby, family vacation, or anything else you can think of. Do your
best to make the pages look nice and as professional as possible. Pretend this is a website you would show
potential clients who are considering hiring your to build them a website.
The entire website should be completed by the given due date. The last timestamp of your files will be used to
determine when you completed the assignment. So do not modify any of the files after you have completed the
project!
Each of you is to evaluate a partner’s website. Partners will be assigned via e-mail. The two of you will need to
find a time when you can meet together and evaluate each other’s site together. You will need to check for the
criteria on the attached sheet and turn in the evaluation at the beginning of class on the due date. Late
evaluations will not be accepted. Please make sure you are thorough in your evaluations. No changes will be
allowed to your pages once the evaluation process has begun.
The reason I am having you evaluate each other’s website is because it will prove to be a learning experience for
the evaluator and evaluatee. Each of you can see what the other has created, and hopefully you will learn some
new techniques or tricks that you can use later. It will also give you experience in peer evaluations – a process that
is very common among working professionals. It is important that you be fair and honest with the person whose
work you are evaluating. The person being evaluated should learn from the experience, not feel humiliated or
embarrassed. If you have any questions about what to assign for a score during the evaluation, please contact me
ASAP.
