Protecting the Environment – IT System

There have been serious concerns raised about climate change. Our actions have resulted
in damage to environment and this has caused global warming. It is important that the damage
being done by us is controlled. Otherwise climate change would result in havoc across the world.
Ocean levels are rising and there may be floods in coastal regions. Some areas may not get rain
while some may get plenty, due the disbalance being caused in the environment. The
irresponsible behavior of humans has caused this problem. We have polluted air, water and soil.
We have also cut down forests.
Our irresponsible behavior can be explained through a term called “consumerism”.
Consumerism has been a recent phenomenon in which humans are only concerned about
consumption. They are concerned about eating at luxury hotels, driving in stylish cars, looking
good in new clothes and satisfying all hedonic needs. We are no longer concerned about being
productive or about being responsible. We throw away our wastes here and there after
consumption. Because are only concerned about consumption.
Bringing a cultural change to make everyone responsible may be a difficult task. But
using IT systems, we can try to wake up people. Our proposal is to build a website which can
help any individual, across the world, to measure level of pollution in nearby places. The website
would have detailed information to help anyone in measuring pollution. The individual would be
helped through brochures and videos. Any individual would go to website and learn to measure
soil, air and water pollution. The individual would also be expected to share the result with
