  • Diathesis- Some people are more vulnerable than others - Ex. Prof's friend John, mother had schizophrenia, grew up and met a great women, who left him and within a year was diagnosed with schizophrenia TERM 9

Positive Symptoms of Schizophrenia

DEFINITION 9

  • Experiencing things that others don't experience - Delusions- thinking you're something or someone you're not - Hallucinations- having perceptual experiences that are not present in reality - Most common- auditory (hearing voices) - Disorganized incoherent speech- going off on all sorts of tangents - Disorganized inappropriate behavior- weird and unacceptable behaviors - Ex. Woman going out in a bikini and tin foil in winter - Cognition is disrupted TERM 10

Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia

  • Can't do things the rest of us can do - Loss of motivation - Emotional flatness - Impoverish speech - Social withdrawal

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

  • Multiple personality disorder (MPD) - Who are these people and how can you tell if they're real - Personalities can be different genders, ages, etcs TERM 17

Phobias

DEFINITION 17 Intense irrational fears Tend to expland
