a) List the three inputs required by all organisations. (3 marks) b) Discuss the differences between manufacturing and service organisations, in general, under the following headings (9 marks) i. Location ii. Quality Assurance iii. Degree of customer contact c) Describe the advantages and disadvantages of mass production. In particular, highlight non- value activities that mass production is prone to. (9 marks) d) Concept generation is a very important step in the design and development process. Why is it important? What tools are used to make the step more effective? (12 marks)

a) State three examples of benchmarking common in manufacturing organisations. (3 marks) b) State three important aspects that have to be addressed in an ISO9000 Quality System. (6 marks) c) The component failure rates of a system are weighted as shown in figure Q2.
