Neck: Flexion – chin to chest; Extension – return to neutral; Hyperextension – head back past
neutral; Lateral – tilt head side to side; Rotation – turn head to look left and right
Shoulder: Flexion – raise arm from side; Extension – return arm to neutral; Hyperextension –
arm back from neutral; Abduction – raise laterally away from body; Adduction – bring from
abducted position back to neutral; Circumduction – circle arm; External rotation – arm held out
from shoulder with elbow at 90-degree angle, start with fingers down and rotate arm upward;
Internal rotation – from externally rotated position back to fingers pointing down

Range of Motion Exercises

Elbow: Flexion – bend at elbow; Extension – return elbow to straightened position; Supination – turn hand in palm-up position “holding a soup(sup) bowl”; Pronation – turn hand to palm-down position Wrist: Flexion – bend hand down from neutral alignment; Extension – return wrist to neutral position; Hyperextension – bend wrist back or up toward forearm; Abduction – hand in supination, bend wrist toward thumb; Adduction – hand in supination, bend wrist in toward fingers

Knee : Flexion - bend knee bringing heel back; Extension - straighten knee returning to original position Foot : Eversion - turn the sole of the foot out laterally; Inversion - turn the sole of the foot in medially images obtained from quizlet.com Toes : Flexion - curl toes downward; Extension - straighten toes; Abduction - spread toes apart; Adduction - bring toes together
