obturator sign - increase in abdominal pain with internal and external rotation of the hip when a patient is supine and hip and knee flexed at 90 degree angle. Indicative of acute appendicitis and peritonitis Iliopsoas sign - a test where the patient lies supine and flexes at the hip lifting the right leg. There should be no pain with resistance to lifting. If pain is present it is usually indicative of inflamed appendix or peritonitis rebound - increase in pain upon release of deep palpation of the lower abdomen. Indicative of appendicitis guarding - tightening of the abdominal muscles to guard inflamed organs
