At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define relation and function
2. Interpret a relation and a function
3. Associate relation and function in real life situation

A. Topic: Representations of Relations and Functions
B. References: Mathematics Learner’s module, pp 138-143
C. Materials: Reference book, Chalk and chalkboard.

Classify Me!
Group the students into three groups and let the them pick a piece of paper and each
paper has a name of an object written on it. Students will group the following objects
in such a way that they have common property/characteristics then write on the
right corner of the board the object and its group in the form (object, common name).

  3. How did you classify the object? D. Lesson Proper a) Define what is Relation. Relation - is any set of ordered pairs. The set of all first coordinates is called the domain of the relation. The set of all second coordinates is called the range of the relation. b) Define what is Function. Function - special type of relation. It is a relation in which every element in the domain is mapped to exactly one element in the range. Thus, set of ordered pairs is a function if no two distinct ordered pair have equal abscissas. c) Discuss what are the different ways in presenting relation.
