Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Types of Art: Naturalism and Idealization The term representation refers to the visual substance of the piece of art as represented by the artist. The idea entails discussing the meaning of the art, yet the visible elements of a piece may present a different meaning. Formal descriptions of artworks, such as representational abstract , or stylized , are distinct from interpretive descriptions. These representations can be put- up by incorporating approaches like idealization, naturalism and abstraction. Idealization Statue of Menkaura and Queen Khamerernebty II According to Bonnie et.al., the Statue of Menkaura and Queen From: https://alg.manifoldapp.org/api/proxy/ingestion_sources/b1ed2677-3fe5-45d6-b9fe- f1d38759ef
What are the characteristics of the artwork? Khamerernebty II is a two-figured statue standing side by side, looking into eternity (30). Characteristically, the piece seems to represent the kingship and the ideal man, and female. The male wears nemes on the head and has artificial beards, wrap-around kilt, and a centered tab, all of which indicate that he is the king. Also, the female sculpture has a cheekbone, slight farrows running diagonally, a bulbed nose, and the lower lip is slightly pout. There are also traces of red paint on the king1s face and black paint on the woman`s wig. Why the artist might have chosen this approach? The artists may have used this approach to create an idealized version of a natural form instead of depicting its actual appearance since this was the norm in Ancient Egypt, to depict royal figures. Also, there could be, or set of idealized principles and norms for the representation of royalties that was explicit on how the royalties must look-it seem the artist may have used idealization approach to come up with proportions of the different parts of the body to one another, their posture, and other particulars.
