TERM 1
Shakespeare should not be taught to junior
high school students.
DEFINITION 1
Good afternoon Mr./Madam chairperson, teachers and
students. The topic of our debate is 'Shakespeare should not
be taught to junior high schools.' We, the affirmative team,
believe this statement to be true.
TERM 2
Shakespeare should not be taught to junior
high school students.
DEFINITION 2
Our first speaker has already informed us of the plain
irrelevance Shakespearean language has to everyday life.
Not only is his work extraneous and useless to the minds of
14 year old's, but the amount of recognition he receives
compared to some other phenomenal playwrights is
astonishing.
TERM 3
Shakespeare should not be taught to junior
high school students.
DEFINITION 3
At the ages of 12-16, young minds all over the world should
be starting to read a variety of different types of literature.
They should be exploring different genres, texts types, and
ethnic histories. However, as far as the schoolcurriculum'sare
concerned, one lonely, European, middle classed male
serves that purpose.
TERM 4
Shakespeare should not be taught to junior
high school students.
DEFINITION 4
Allowing young teenagers to experience a variety of different
playwrights early in life, empowers them to develop more
variation in their language and perspectives.
TERM 5
Shakespeare should not be taught to junior
high school students.
DEFINITION 5
For example, Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible,' and William
Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar,' both had similar themes of
deceit, reputation, and jealousy. Despite this, the out-dated
point of view is shown to be more important in the education
of our students, rather than a modern point of view students
can both understand and relate to.

DEFINITION 1 Good afternoon Mr./Madam chairperson, teachers and students. The topic of our debate is 'Shakespeare should not be taught to junior high schools.' We, the affirmative team, believe this statement to be true. TERM 2

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 2 Our first speaker has already informed us of the plain irrelevance Shakespearean language has to everyday life. Not only is his work extraneous and useless to the minds of 14 year old's, but the amount of recognition he receives compared to some other phenomenal playwrights is astonishing. TERM 3

DEFINITION 3 At the ages of 12-16, young minds all over the world should be starting to read a variety of different types of literature. They should be exploring different genres, texts types, and ethnic histories. However, as far as the schoolcurriculum'sare concerned, one lonely, European, middle classed male serves that purpose. TERM 4

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 4 Allowing young teenagers to experience a variety of different playwrights early in life, empowers them to develop more variation in their language and perspectives. TERM 5

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 5 For example, Arthur Miller's 'The Crucible,' and William Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar,' both had similar themes of deceit, reputation, and jealousy. Despite this, the out-dated point of view is shown to be more important in the education of our students, rather than a modern point of view students can both understand and relate to.

TERM 6

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 6 Not only are other playwrights excluded to our school systems, different cultural perspectives aren't given half as much recognition as Shakespeare's plays are given. As vivid readers, students from grades 7 to 10 should be taught to read literature written by ethnically-diverse writers who tell stories about the human experience as they are acknowledged in modern times. Shakespeare lived in a small world. A world with limitations and boundaries with every sentence that dared touch paper. TERM 7

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 7 As a developing society, we are absentmindedly clinging to one man's view of life as he lived it a few hundred years ago. As long as the junior high school system continues to cling on to Shakespeare, we perhaps unwillingly create the notion that other cultural perspectives are less important. TERM 8

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 8 Other cultures have proven to have just as relevant views of the humanbehavioras Shakespeare did. By only teaching Shakespeare to junior high school students, we, as an integrated society, are seen to disregard any other cultural view other than the Eurocentric one. TERM 9

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 9 For example, translations of modern and/or ancient human views of Middle Eastern perspectives have equal relevance to everyday situations as Shakespeare's plays had. Both inevitably have messages regarding love, loss, betrayal etc, and yet we continue to latch onto the experience of one man who died over three hundred and fifty years ago. TERM 10

Shakespeare should not be taught to junior

high school students.

DEFINITION 10 As 12 to 16 year old's begin to learn more about the growing world, they should be learning about every part of the human experience. By enabling senior students to study Shakespeare instead of junior students, the school system is not only allowing junior students to experience a variation of different texts early in life, but are also dedicating other authors equal time and value as Shakespearean studies. And in terms of the junior schooling system now, he's outdated, overused and obnoxious.
