DC Sweep Simulation and Parametric Analysis for Designing a Symmetrical Inverter, Lecture notes of Electrical Engineering

Instructions on how to perform a dc sweep simulation and parametric analysis in analog discrete (ade) window of ltspice using an example of designing a symmetrical inverter. It covers the steps to set up the simulation, create a parameter, run parametric analysis, and interpret the results.

Simulations instructions:
(1) How to do DC sweep.
1 Choose DC sweep analysis from Analysis => choose….
Select component parameter. For component name, go back to schematic window and
pick your input source.
Then a window will pop up, choose the DC component.
sweep range: 0 - 5.
After you have done all the steps above, the “choosing analysis” panel should look
like the one on right of the first picture.

Simulations instructions: (1) How to do DC sweep. 1 Choose DC sweep analysis from Analysis => choose….

Select component parameter. For component name, go back to schematic window and pick your input source.

Then a window will pop up, choose the DC component.

sweep range: 0 - 5. After you have done all the steps above, the “choosing analysis” panel should look like the one on right of the first picture.

On ADE window, Choose simulation==>run. You will get a simulation result like this:

(2) Design a symmetrical inverter. Go to your inverter schematic and change the width of PMOS from an exact number into a parameter. Check and save.

Go back to the ADE window start from your simulation schematic (not this inverter). Still doing DC simulation. Instead of doing “Simulation==> run”, do “Simulation==> netlist==> create final”. Then the parameter "aa" appears in the Design variable list.

The desired value of “aa” is where “vout=vin=vdd/2”.
