Molecule: is an aggregate of at least two atoms in a definite arrangement held together by chemical forces (also called chemical bonds). A molecule can contain atoms of the same element or atoms of two or more elements, always in a fixed ratio. Atom: Basic unit of an element that can intervene in a chemical combination. An atom is an extremely small and indivisible particle, they are made up of even smaller particles, called subatomic particles. Electron: The first subatomic particle, electrons are elementary particles of electricity used as electrical charges. The value of the electron is: e=-1.602189x10^(-19) C; Its unit of measure is coulombs. And the value of its mass is m=9.109534x10^(-31) kg. Proton: Positively charged subatomic particle, fundamental part of the atom. The charge of the proton is: e=+1.602189x10^(-19)C and its mass is m_p=1.672649x10^(-27) kg Bond: union that exists between two atoms in order to form a molecule. Orbital: Represents a region of space, around the nucleus, where there is a high probability of finding an electron with a certain energy, there are s, p, d, f orbitals. Octet: Octet rule or octet theory to explain how the atoms of chemical elements are joined.(concepto, 2022) Lewis: structure that shows the bond between the atoms as short lines and the non-bonding valence electrons as dots. (LibreTexts, 2022) Photon: particle of light that propagates in a vacuum, being responsible for the electromagnetic phenomenon. Wavelength: magnitude that reflects the distances that exist between corresponding points which are consecutive. Radiation: a form of moving energy that spreads through invisible waves. Work function: minimum energy required to move an electron from a solid to a point outside the solid's surface. (quimica.es, 2023) Compton shift: Increase in wavelength when an X-ray photon collides with a free electron and loses some of its energy. The frequency or wavelength of the scattered radiation depends solely on the direction of scattering.(quimica.es, 2023) Valence: number of electrons that an element has in its last energy level. Quantum number: It is a numerical value used to describe an atomic orbital that represents the properties of the electron that occupies the orbital, based on quantum mechanics and the Schrödinger equation.
