The relationship between rectangles and squares, their defining characteristics, and how to calculate their areas. A rectangle is a flat or rigid quadrilateral with four right angles and two pairs of parallel sides. If all sides are equal, it is a square. The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying its length and width, while the area of a square is the square of its side length.
