balanced in panels.

  1. Once you have your panels created. You will write down the speaker order that they are in for round 1 and the room they were in. a. In the three preliminary rounds each speaker should receive a top, middle, and bottom speaking position. If paneling priorities make this an impossibility in rounds two and three, a blind draw will be used to determine position in the affected panel. EX: If there are only four competitors, you would write 1T, 2M, 3M, and 4B to note where they spoke in the round.
  2. Once you have the rooms set, you will call the SVFL president to check the placements and check for errors.
  3. Writing ballots: You need to write out ballots for the judge house with the speaker codes and the position the students are speaking with the room they will compete in. Typically, one coach reads it while the other writes. a. Once done, take the ballots to judge house.
  4. Lastly, you will update the folder by writing where each student spoke and in what room. This keeps an ongoing record of the tournament.

check and approve. a. Once approved, write ballots for judge house. b. Then, write down speaker position and room number.

  1. You will go to the folder and input what score they received from round 1 and where they are speaking in round 2. Continue to do so for each round.

Semis and Finals

This is from the constitution: In setting up semi final and final panels, effort shall be made to allow the maximum number of students to participate. There should be 14 students in the semi-finals and 7 students in finals. Exceptions to this rule shall be dealt with by the Executive Committee. Three preliminary rounds shall be held for all individual events unless there are less than 28 entries. When entries are 27 or less there will be only two preliminary rounds. Make sure to enter in your the results for your competitors into your school folder to have a record and be able to enter their NSDA points after the completion of the tournament.
