1. Explain and discuss the conflict that Mago and Reyna have for their mother. Read the passage and discuss:
I wasn’t old enough to understand that Mami was two people in one: a
woman who wanted to be loved by a man, and a mother who wanted
to do right by her children. But the look on her face was enough to alert
me to the conflict inside her. When men passed by and glanced at her,
sometimes even stopping to ask her the time, it terrified me.
Mago rushed at her, and for a moment, I thought she was going to hit
our mother. Instead she started kicking chairs, pulling out her own hair,
and screaming at the top of her lungs.
Was this avoidable? Was Mago reacting to her own angry or displeased
