article discusses the use of techniques and practices to reduce the effects of compassion
fatigue on Veterinary Staff and Animal Care Workers. The article begins with detailing
the issue of Compassion Fatigue and Traumatic experiences and the lasting effects it can
have on workers' lives. These risks arise from Animal Care Workers that experience
frequent euthanasia and witnessing animals in distress which has caused these workers
to experience burnout in their work. Improving recruitment methods can help improve
the risks of burnout by identifying signs of future stress and fatigue in workers before
they happen and determining if the applicant will fit in. Trauma caused by Clinical
Effects can be prevented through taking precautions when feeling stress such as taking
breaks, using self-care, understanding grief, and through work social support.
Organizational Responses. This article stated Animal care professionals are also
encouraged to build social networking with their patients and staff to create an
understanding for clients and trust for the patients. Organization in the Clinic and
Shelter can prevent trauma using decision making by rotating staff in case a worker is
experiencing burnout and limiting the amount of euthanasia’s per week. The purpose of
this article is to prevent compassion fatigue among Veterinary staff through decision
