Introduction Activity Option 2: Terrific tents Form kids into groups of three or four kids. Distribute craft sticks, toothpicks, play dough, and paper napkins or paper towels to each group. Encourage kids to work together with their group to create tents using the supplies provided. Invite groups to present their tent creations to the rest of the group. Say• Great job! Did you know that tentmaking was an important and common job during Bible times? In fact, even Paul was a tentmaker. In today’s story, we will meet a couple of tentmakers—named Priscilla and Aquila—and see how God used them to spread the good news of the gospel to others. Big Picture Question and Review For the next few weeks as we meet together, we will be thinking about this question, about an important word that has to do with an amazing transformation that God causes to happen in the lives of Christians:

After Jesus’ death and resurrection, the early church grew and spread. Leaders like Peter, Philip, Paul, Barnabas, James and Silas shared the gospel.

From the time Paul became a believer on the road to Damascus, he spent his life telling others about Jesus.

In our Bible story today, we will see how these hard things didn’t stop Paul from preaching the good news. He lived a life of obedience to the Lord and used every opportunity to tell others about Jesus.

As you listen to the Bible story, listen for these things:

  • What work did Paul and his friends Aquila and Priscilla do together?
  • How did Aquila and Priscilla help Apollos?
  • What did Paul tell his friends from Ephesus before he headed to Jerusalem, that made them cry? Bible Lesson Video (click on the picture below to view)

everything about Jesus, so Priscilla and Aquila took him to their home and explained more to him. Apollos traveled and taught others, using the Scriptures to show that Jesus is the Messiah. Paul met with a group of people to eat the Lord’s Supper. He talked to the group until midnight. As Paul spoke, a young man named Eutychus (YOO tih kuhs) was sitting in the window. He listened to Paul talking and became very sleepy. When he fell asleep, he fell out the window—three stories down to the ground! Eutychus was dead, but Paul went to his side and put his arms around him, and Eutychus came back to life. Paul continued talking until the morning. Then the believers took Eutychus home, and they were greatly comforted. Now Paul traveled back toward Ephesus. He decided not to stop in Ephesus, but he asked the leaders of the church there to meet him in a

nearby city. Paul said to them, “I am obeying the Spirit and am going to sail to Jerusalem. I do not know what will happen to me there, but I know that trouble and jail wait for me. I do not care about my own life. The most important thing is that I finish the work Jesus gave me to do. I want to tell people the good news of God’s grace.” Paul and the church leaders prayed together, and they cried because they knew they might never see Paul again. Then they went with him to the ship to say goodbye. Christ Connection: As Paul traveled on his third missionary journey, he used every opportunity to tell people the good news about Jesus and to help the church. Paul was dedicated to Jesus, who called him to do the work of sharing the gospel.

Paul’s own power that brought him back to life. It was the power of God in Paul, and this miracle encouraged his friends in their faith in Jesus. Paul knew that God wanted him to go to Jerusalem. He didn’t know what would happen to him there, but he knew it wouldn’t be easy or safe. Paul told his friends that he did not care about his own life. He only cared about doing the work of telling others the good news about Jesus. Paul’s friends prayed for him and sent him on a ship to Jerusalem. Key Passage: Show the verse poster. Read the verse aloud with/to kids.

Older kids version:

Paul wrote this letter to Timothy to share with the church in Ephesus. The letter of 1 Timothy is found in the New Testament. 1 Timothy comes after 2 Thessalonians. This letter is written to Timothy to encourage him to keep fighting the good fight of faith in Jesus. It’s not always easy to follow Jesus in this sinful world, but we can keep pressing on to know Jesus fully. Prayer Lord, thank You for saving us and then calling us to join in the work You are doing here at home and around the world. Help us obey when You call us to do something. Let us use every opportunity to tell about the salvation You give through Jesus. May You be glorified through our lives. Amen.

Lesson Review Key Passage Review Write each word of the key passage on a separate sheet of paper. Tape the papers to the floor in a path. Invite the kids to take turns hopping on the path. Encourage the kids to say each word of the key passage as they hop. Cover some papers so the key passage word is not visible. Challenge the kids to hop through the path again reciting the key passage filling in the blanks on their own. Continue hopping through the path and saying the key passage until most of the kids can say it easily. Say• Fighting the good fight of faith means that there will be times when we go against what our friends are doing. God has called us to put our faith in Jesus and fight to keep trusting Jesus every day.
