UNIVERSAL DESIGN IN

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

ABSTRACT

Our research paper mainly speaks about the role of sensory design in universal educational institutes. This paper mainly deals with the expressive methods of incorporating and explaining about are the roles of sensory design architecture in universal educational institutes. main concept of universal design is to benefit variety of people and not only just the disability people. design aims that disabled people must be treated equally , have to get the same education what normal people have already studying. easy access for disabled peoples to all parts of the building with natural and advanced method of learning fecilities can improve their confidence and job oppurtunities in the society. design encourages various activities for students with interactive learning , multi sensational approach acronyms ,acrostics and many more. design includes more economical and sustainable buildings to the existing habitat. finally this paper helps to understand what are the role of sensory designing in worldwide educational institutes and things to be changed in the existing educational institutes. KEYWORDS SENSORY DESIGN ARCHITECTURE , ECONOMICAL SUSTAINABLE BUILDINGS , INTERACTIVE LEARNING , MULTI SENSATIONAL APPROACH , ACRONYMS , ACROSTICS. INTRODUCTION UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR STUDENTS BY USING DIGITAL MEDIA WITH FLEXIBLE METHODS TO HELP STUDENTS MEET THEIR GOALS .DESIGNING BUILDINGS IN ACCESSIBILITY FOR STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS WAS AN APPROACH TO THE DESIGN OF ENVIRONMENTS TO BE USABLE TO EVERYONE. PRINCIPLES OF UNIVERSAL DESIGN SIZE AND SPACE APPROACH AND USE FOR WIDE RANGE OF PEOPLE. LOW PHYSICAL EFFORT

MULTIPLE MEANS OF STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT

Providing numerous opportunities for students to interact with the content maximizes student learning. a many reasons. Some students who are taking notes may miss key concepts because they fall behind in taking Margaretha Vreeburg Izzo / Procedia Computer Science 14 ( 2012 ) 343 – 350 345 notes. Other students plan on listening to the lecture, but their minds wander off. Students learn better when they are actively engaged by answering questions, discussing the content or applying what they are learning to actual problems. Professors who present key concepts, provide guided notes that require students to think independently about applications and then share these applications in small or large groups will increase student engagement with the content. Increasing the time students engage with the content t by listening to a lecture, watching a video or computer- animated demonstration, reading a website, or talking with their peers about the content will enhance retention and ultimately, increase achievement. MULTIPLE MEANS OF REPRESENTATION Presenting content using a variety of teaching strategies enhances achievement for students who have different learning styles. For example, students with learning disabilities whose learning strength is using visual or kinesthetic modes are at a disadvantage during a lecture, which relies on auditory processing skills. Instructors who present information using multi-modal teaching will increase the probability that students will acquire the key content of a topic. Examples include using a mixture of media to relay concepts such as lectures, podcasts, texts and web resources ranging from YouTube videos to multiple versions of class notes posted by several students for each class.

Fig – 1 principles of universal design guidelines UNIVERSAL DESIGN FOR LEARNING In order to ensure that all students are educated effectively UDL is based on three organizing principles:

  1. Provide multiple pathways for students to interact with and engage with each other and the curriculum and to express what they have learned.
  2. Represent curricular information in multiple formats and media, and 3. Provide multiple ways to engage students’ interests and motivations. Rose and Meyer (2002) state, “The central practical premise of UDL is that a curriculum should include alternatives to make it accessible and appropriate for individuals with different backgrounds, learning styles, abilities, and disabilities in widely varied learning contexts” (para. 2). Rose and Meyer tells us that learning requires challenge and resistance. In their view that creates the difference.

HOW TO MAKE INSTITUTION SUSTAINABLE

Give importance to indoor air quality Create adaptable classrooms Adding natural sunlight Explore near by energy efficient resources. CONCLUSION Basic principles of urban design and what are the benefits of universal design then discussed about the key principles of urban design in detail how it is connected ,what are the universal design for learning and discussed about the basic sensory design and how to make the building sustainable.
