The CIPD Profession Map sets out the CIPD’s professional standards: transferable capabilities that deliver great HR and sustained performance. Of its many uses, CIPD members use the framework to plan their development and build their HR capability. This document will help you get started…You can then use the tools on our website to plan your development in more detail. Step One: Which band? Take a look at the Bands Description and Transitions handout. Which band are you currently working at?
Which band do you need to be at (because of your current role or changes in the way you work, for example)?
(Concentrate on this band when you are looking at the professional areas and behaviours in the Profession map)
What do you need to do to get there (see transition handout)? Give specific examples.
Step Two: Professional Area/s Take a look at the overview and core Professional Area handouts. Are you confident you have the two core areas covered at the relevant band/level?
Which professional areas are important to you? o Do you/your team need to increase your knowledge of a specialist area? o Do you need to widen your experience across HR?
How could you and your team develop knowledge and experience in these areas?
