General Problem: On social adaptive behaviour. Specific Problem: To determine the level of social maturity of the subject by using Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS). Basic Concept: Social Skills: A social skill is any competence facilitating interaction and communication with others where social rules and relations are created, communicated, and changed in verbal and nonverbal ways. The process of learning these skills is called socialisation. Adaptive Behaviour: Adaptive behaviour is behaviour that enables a person to cope in their environment with greatest success and least conflict with others. This is a term used in the areas of psychology and special education. It includes real-life skills such as grooming, getting dressed, avoiding danger, safe food handling, following school rules, managing money, cleaning, and making friends. Adaptive behaviour also includes the ability to work, practice social skills, and take personal responsibility. Social Maturity: Social Maturity is the process of developing appropriate attitudes for personal, interpersonal, and social adequacies of an individual, which are essential for functioning effectively in the Society. It includes such behavioural forms as group compatibility, kindness and sympathy, fair play emotional adjustability, courtesy and politeness,dependability, self-confidence, co-operation, leadership and cheerfulness. Relationship between social quotient(SQ)and intelligence quotient(IQ): Intelligence quotient(IQ) and social quotient(SQ) are comparable in predicting intelligence status. The latter is assessed whenever IQ testing is not possible. IQ and SQ were positively correlated (P = 0.01). Intelligence quotient(IQ): This is the measure of your comprehensive ability to solve math problems retain information and recall subject matters. Social quotient(SQ): This is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time. Objective of the Study: To measure social maturation in eight social areas: Self-help General (SHG), Self-help Eating (SHE), Self- help Dressing (SHD), Self-direction (SD), Occupation (OCC), Communication (COM), Locomotion (LOM), and Socialisation (SOC). 8y Above Age Appropriate Conclusion: My subject have achieved age-appropriate social maturity in COM. In SHE, SD, OCC and LOC he got below age appropriate and in SHG, SHD & SOC he got above age appropriate. His SQ was 84.38 which is Below Average IQ. The subject needs self-help training to improve his eating, locomotion ability. Also he needs parent counselling to allow more room for learning and socialisation.
