An in-depth analysis of five popular exogenous ketone products, including Perfect Keto, Real Ketones Prime D+, Pruvit Nat, Ketologic Keto BHB, and Simply Keto Nutrition. The authors conducted a test to determine the effectiveness and composition of each product, revealing important information about the use of LBHB, DBHB, and proprietary blends. useful for students and researchers interested in understanding the differences between various exogenous ketone supplements and making informed decisions about their use.

Don't miss anything!
We did all the work so you don't have to.
When it comes to exogenous ketones there are many choices out there and we tested the most popular ones. We hope this helps you gain a better understanding of exogenous ketones and the differences in the products themselves.
How we tested the different products:
We had 5 people in the test group. 2 follow a strict ketogenic diet and the other 3 follow a low carb lifestyle. We used a keto mojo blood meter and tested our ketone levels over a 4 hour period. We tested ourselves every hour to determine how
long the elevated ketones stayed in our systems. We fasted for 16 hours, so that food would not interfere with the test results. We then tested ourselves each hour and posted the results. We did this each day until we tested all the products. This
is a test you could easily perform on our own using a ketone blood meter. Simply, fast for 16 hours and test your blood level. Then, take any of these products and test your blood ketone levels each hour. You could do this without fasting as well
but we wanted to make sure we were using the same conditions for each product so that the results would be fairly represented. We are confident your results
would be comparable to ours.
First off what is LBHB and what is DBHB?
Simply put, DBHB is the ketone your body produces for energy when your body
breaks down fat and turns it into energy. LBHB is the antimere of DBHB and there is very little research on its benefits. It is not produced naturally by your body. Some believe, it has a net negative when it comes to getting your body into shape.
So why do companies combine LBHB with DBHB.
The answer is, Its cheaper. As stated in the ketogenic bible:
“The body produces D-BHB so it slots into place easily” “most products use the mixed isomer, or racemic form of ketones (DL-BHB). Why, first the mixed isomer is significantly cheaper to produce”
What is GOBHB and why is it in so many products?
GoBHB is a branded form of the combination of DBHB and LBHB (DL-BHB), referred to as the racemic form, that is sold to most of the companies selling exogenous ketone supplements on the market today. If you look closely at the markings on the products you will see a GOBHB logo. They buy the blended material from them and add it to their products. Your Facebook page is littered with companies selling this blended material and they are mostly all the same just the flavors change. The company selling GOBHB is called Compound Solutions who sells many nutritional supplement ingredients to various companies. They have licensed a patent that allows those companies to advertise these products for weight loss. Those who do not buy the branded GOBHB can't make weight loss claims without being subject to legal action. The good news is this patent expires in October and this will open up the market and hopefully make the products more affordable.
You will see, in the results, that those using the branded GOBHB are the least effective due to the combination of LBHB with the more expensive DBHB.
The dirty trick utilized by some of these companies:
Some of these companies try and hide the amount of DBHB they have in their products by combining it with other ingredients and calling it a proprietary blend. Here is an example: In this example, we know that all of these ingredients added together equal 13 grams. There is no way to determine how much of each as it is hidden in the total gram weight. Some companies use proprietary blend but will seper
Real Ketones Prime D+
They use the terminology, proprietary blend and call it 255. They have a combination of GOBHB (combines LBHB and DBHB) and MCT.
13.1 grams of the combination of DBHB, LBHB and MCT
Pruvit Nat
They also use the terminology, proprietary blend, and call it N8 Max Nat. In it they combine DBHB (No LBHB) L-Taurine, L-Leucine, and the inner bark of Uncaria Tomentosa for a total gram weight of 12.6. Pruvit does not use GoBHB but they have a licensing deal in place that enables them to make weight-loss claims. With the patent expiring in October Pruvit will no longer have to pay licensing fees to make these claims and this should result in a lower cost to the consumer. As it stands now Pruvit's products are very expensive due to high costs in paying commissions under their network marketing business structure and the patent licensing fees.
We don't know how much DBHB is in their product because of the use of proprietary blend on their labeling. We suspect it is 7 grams based on the results.
Ketologic Keto BHB They like Perfect Keto tell you the gram weight of GOBHB they have per serving.
6 Grams GOBHB per serving
Conclusion:
We averaged our 5 results together since they were all very close into one chart. No surprise, that the best results were from the two products that use no LBHB in their respective products. Both, Simply Keto Nutrition and Pruvit had the best results and were pretty much identical. From an energy standpoint, you could really tell the difference between those who used a combination of D-BHB and L-BHB (Gobhb). The energy from the DBHB alone products was described as euphoric and lasted for several hours in both Pruvit and Simply Keto. The others didn't give you that feeling and any energy we felt was short-lived. Everyone thought Pruvit tasted better than Simply Keto Nutrition but not enough to justify their price.
We also noticed some tricky stuff on some of these websites. One in particular primarily used employees and affiliates with photos and videos showing how much weight they lost. We give them 4 Pinocchio's for this conduct. We also think its unethical to say taking exogenous ketones alone will lead to weight loss. We believe weight loss comes from lifestyle change and as such we view exogenous ketones for what they are, pure ketone energy. Calling them weight loss pills or weight loss mixes is unethical in our opinion.
Pills or Capsules: See below the results were horrible.
Ok, So when when should I take exogenous Ketones? ,
MCT
We thought we should discuss MCT as it is used in the Real Ketones product. We are big believers in MCT when following a ketogenic diet. MCT is essentially a medium- chain fat that converts into a ketone when digested. We found that when combined with BHB and consumed at exactly the same time it had little to no impact on blood ketone levels. We tested this by taking Pruvit's Nat and combining it with 6 grams of C8 MCT. The results were almost identical to taking Pruvit Nat alone. We then took Pruvit's Nat alone and waited an hour and then took the 6 grams of MCT. We found we extended the effectiveness by an extra hour. See the results below. We believe, this proves that the BHB and MCT act independently of each other and we suspect when you take them together since your body has enough ketone energy from the use of exogenous ketones, it actually suppresses ketone production and the MCT may be stored as fat. This would be a terrible result. As such, we suggest spacing out the use of MCT when taking exogenous ketones for at least an hour or longer.
