5. Antibodies (noun): aremedicines that fight infections caused by bacteria in humans and
animals by either killing the bacteria or making it difficult for the bacteria to grow and multiply.
Bacteria are germs.
(However, we do not know that the levels of Antibodies detected are actually protective levels.)
Summary
In 1796, Edward Jenner created the first vaccine, inoculating against smallpox with cowpox. His
groundbreaking work eventually led to the official abolition of smallpox in 1980. An easy,
secure, and reliable method of preventing hazardous infections before you are exposed to them is
vaccination. It boosts your immune system and builds up your body's natural defenses against
particular infections. Vaccines are substances that, by simulating an infection, prepare the
immune system to fight a disease-causing germ or other pathogen.
