An overview of the excretory system, focusing on its functions, the organs involved, and the specific role of the urinary system. The excretory system is responsible for eliminating wastes from the body, including water, co2, nitrogen, and salts. The four main organs are the lungs, kidneys, liver, and skin. The lungs release co2 and water through respiration, while the liver stores sugar and converts amino acids into urea, which is excreted through the kidneys and urine. The skin releases urea, water, and salt through perspiration. The kidneys are the primary organ of the excretory system, filtering impurities from the blood and producing urine. This document also discusses the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureter, bladder, and urethra.

Functions of the Excretory System: The function of the excretory system to remove wastes from the body. These wastes include water, CO2, nitrogen, salts, and heat. Metabolism: The process of the body coverting food into energy. As a result of metabolism, there are waste products. Four organs of the Excretory system are lungs, kidneys, liver, and the skin Lungs: Release carbon dioxide and water from the process of respiration. Liver: The liver stores sugar until it is needed in the blood. Amino acids release nitrogen when they are changed into sugars. Nitrogen is changed by the liver into urea. Urea is a major substance in urine which is released from the body through the urethra. Skin: The skin releases urea, water and salt from the body through perspiration. Perspiration also helps to cool the body. Kidneys: (^) The main organ of the excretory system. They filter wastes and poisons out of the blood. Your entire blood supply passes through the kidneys about once every 30 minutes. The waste removed here is called urine which is made up of water, urea, and salts. Nephrons are small filtering units in the kidney
