1. What is the title of the text and what is the text about? Popular
Mechanics. The story is about the arguments of a couple that are splitting and their
disagreement with whom keeps the child they have together.
2. What is the author’s view? How do I know? The author's view of this
passage seems to be that differences of adults should not decide the fate of a child
negatively.
3. What is the evidence presented by the author to support ideas? The
line of the story reads, “The baby was res-faced and screaming.”(Carver, 1981), suggests
that the baby is hurt in this struggle between two adults that are unable to sort their
differences in a way that respects the child’s well-being.
4. Is the evidence valid? How do I know? Yes. The evidence considers the state
of being of the child. The fight between the couple is coming down to who should take
the child, and both seem to be willing to fight over that notion.
5. Is the evidence relevant? How do I know? The evidence is relevant since
the involvement of a physical scuffle with the child being the subject of the fight makes
it seriously important.
6. Have I heard/read anything similar or dissimilar? What was
it? Typically, most adults with partners in life get to experience or hear some
differences between couples. I heard some different versions of quarrel, disagreement,
argument, or fights between couples.
7. Do I agree or disagree with the views expressed by the author?
Why? I agree with the author. The passage translates exactly how a couple with kids
are not separating the kids from personal differences at hand.
