Presentation Guidelines Select a hot topic in nutrition that is of interest to you to investigate. Research, in depth, whether that product claim, herb or supplement claim, a new medical treatment or concept is actually true. Researching the topic will require a minimum of 3 valid references from the literature. A valid reference is one from a peer-reviewed journal from Medline or Pubmed such as the New England Journal or Medicine, Cancer Research, Journal of the American Dietetic Assoc., etc. Of the 3 articles you reference, choose one in particular to Xerox and turn in with your assignment, bring in a xerox of the first page of the other 2 references. Additional resources include text books and Intemet information, but unless these are professional joumals, they will not count toward your 3 cited references. Develop a brief presentation that is 8(minimun)-10 (maximum) minutes long for the presentation and 3 minutes for questions. Be prepared to answer the questions thoroughly on your topic. A handout may be prepared if it enhances the presentation, but the purpose of this is to gain experience and skill in oral presentation and increase your knowledge base. The presentation should provide a brief introduction/over-view on the topic you are presenting (product, claim, disease, or symptom) should be provided so the class understands what you are talking about. The main part of your presentation will be to explain exactly why or why not you believe what you researched to be true. Your presentation is expected to be thorough and not superficial. All presentations need -be powerpoint. Think about the types of presentations you like when other speakers are in front-of a class and try to incorporate those things into your presentation. There is no wrong approach to this: simply present the topic in a manner that you feel will interest the class based on what you found during your research. At the time of your presentation, turn in a professional news report brief that is at least 1/2 pg, but does not exceed 1 pg (font size 12, 1.5 spaced). The news report will be similar to what one would report if your presentation were to be broadcasted on the nightly news. It should be a well-written, professional summary of your talk, geared to the general public : . Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this assignment and have fun.
