Essay: Bilingual Education
According to aft.org, about 40 million elementary students in the United States have a
bilingual education program. Bilingual Education is considered to be an effective way of
learning a new language; it refers to the use of two or more languages as mediums of instruction
for content subjects. Bilingual Education has some challenges, but can benefit people in many
ways and give them good advantages in life.
People with a bilingual education may face some challenges.
Bilingual education is more common in children who are around their elementary years.
Since they are in the stage of their lives were they start to develop, one of the most common
challenge they may face is the language delay, which is commonly confused with speech delays.
Language delay is completely normal and it comes up because the child takes longer to become
fluent in both languages. The reason why this happens is because they are exposed to double of
vocabulary that those kids that have, what we call, a normal education. Mixing languages is
another common example of having a bilingual education. We see this when kids use whichever
words they know to make themselves understood. One more example of the challenge that this
children may face is on reading and writing. This subjects will require more effort from the child
to properly master them because we know that they will never become proficient in both
languages as one of the two languages will always be stronger than the other.
Knowing these challenges is important because you will be able to better understand
what the child will be going through and therefore be able to help them if they are planning to
quit. Parents and instructors alike understand the importance of knowing a child’s amount of

Understanding the challenges can aid an instructor in helping the child learning to succeed in their studies of languages. Having a bilingual education can benefit people in many different ways. As part of it’s benefits, we have that bilingual education creates a great opportunity for diversity, which includes making friends from other places, have more fun, and a chance to learn from differences instead of being scared. Additionally, bilingual education provides better opportunities such as numerous of professional future opportunities to the modern worker; in school, take advantage of opportunities when ready to pursue a vocational path; and talking about money, it gives people 20% more on their salary. On top of this, bilingual education works out memory, gives lower levels of anxiety, people are less likely to mental health disorders like Alzheimer; bilingual education can strengthen the executive function to the brain, developing skills and performing better on tasks, decision making and problem solving. Finally, bilingual education encourages wisdom, gives more options for further education, making people biliterate. The reason why I want people to know how bilingual education has many advantages is because they might get to the point where they have second thoughts about taking bilingual classes, but they should know that it benefits them since knowing two or more languages will help them today and in the future. When having a bilingual education, people have a lot of advantages. Coming back to children, it is easier for them to learn a second language. They are like sponges, they absorb that second language faster than an adult because they have lower levels of complex information, learning is part of the brain chemistry and they are less apt to feel
