OBJECTIVES MAIN GOAL Improve, through environmental auditing, the environmental performance of economic sectors so that it is superior to that required by law. BUSINESS PURPOSE It is aimed at companies in operation, which due to their location, dimensions, characteristics and scope may cause negative effects or impacts on the environment or exceed the limits established in the applicable provisions on the protection, prevention and restoration of the environment.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITS? Have as their purpose the observance of the principles of environmental policy relative to the responsibility of authorities and individuals in the protection of the ecological balance, in the prevention and repair of damages to the environment, as well as to encourage those who protect the environment, promote or carry out actions mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change and take advantage of natural resources in a sustainable way.

WHAT DOES THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT PROGRAM CONSIST OF? The Program consists of an ordered series of activities necessary to promote the performance of environmental audits. It is aimed at companies in operation, which due to their location, dimensions, characteristics and scope may cause negative effects or impacts on the environment or exceed the limits established in the applicable provisions on the protection, prevention and restoration of the environment (Regulation, op. cit., Art. 6).

MAIN ASPECTS THAT MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT TO CARRY OUT AN AUDIT If a company decides to carry out an environmental audit, to carry it out, each of the following aspects must be reviewed and verified: water, air, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, soil and subsoil. In addition, other considerations will also be taken into account, for example, where the industry is located or how its facilities are. With all this, the purpose is to evaluate and verify the activities carried out by an organization, to safeguard the environment.

STAGES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT First.- Planning of the Environmental Audit: There are four modalities for the facilities to obtain their certificate, each of which requires meeting different times and requirements. Regulation of the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection in matters of Self-regulation and Environmental Audits: Establishes the legal and legal provisions that define the development and operation of the national environmental audit program, as well as the certification process and ways to get it. Second.- Execution of the Environmental Audit (Field and Cabinet Works): The environmental auditor performs an exhaustive examination of both the processes and the documentary evidence to verify compliance with environmental regulations (on the dates agreed in the Audit Plan). Third.- Post Audit: A Letter of Commitment or Concertation Agreement is signed with PROFEPA, through which the audited organization agrees to comply with the Action Plan.

WHICH BODY AND UNDER WHICH STANDARD ARE AUDITS GOVERNED? Currently, this type of audit is governed by ISO 14001, a standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (IS0) that contains standards and guides related to a company's management systems. Through this precept, companies must meet certain objectives, which evaluate the impact of their activities on the environment.
