A short summary of the story
One day a lady called Helen Stoner. Visited Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, and asked them to help her. Two years
ago her sister Julia was killed. That night was there stepfather Dr Roylott earlier in bed than they. Later on they went
also to bed, but Helens sister Julia came into her room and said she couldn't sleep because of smoke of cigarettes.
She said to Helen that she heard lately a strange whistle. And she asked if Helen heard the whistle also but she said
no. So they went to bed and locked there doors. They locked them, because they don't feel safe for Dr Roylott’s wild
animals. Later that night. Helen heard a terrible scream. It was her sister! Then she heard a whistle and a sound of
falling metal. Helen ran to Julia’s room, and she found Julia shaking and Helen held her. But a few seconds later
Julia’s knees gave it up and she felt. Before she died, she said to Helen: 'It was the band, Helen! The speckled Band".
Helen was afraid and even more because her stepfather asked her to sleep in her sisters room. Because some
repairs had to be done in her own room. So Helen had to sleep in her sisters bed, but she couldn't sleep because she
was scared. And she asked Sherlock Holmes for help. A few days later Sherlock com to here home and want to look
around. When he sat on Julia’s bed he looked around and the first thing he noticed was the bell rope. When he pull
the rope he noticed it was fake. The second thing he saw was that the ventilator didn't let fresh air from outside in
the room, but that it goes into another room. (The bell rope was hanging near the ventilator).
After that they went to Dr Roylott's room. It was a larger room, with a large iron chest. Then he saw a strange thing;
a bowl of milk on the chest. There was also a snake in the house.
They went out the chamber. Holmes told Helen she must go to bed if she hear here stepfather go to bed. And she
have to turn a lamp on in the window. Then she must go to her own bed. Holmes and Watson spend the night in
Julia’s room and listen and hope that they hear the whistle sound. Holmes said to Watson that he could not sleep
because there life was in danger. After three hours waiting they here in the ventilator a noise. Holmes beat wildly
with its stick. Then they heard a terrible noise and that died away. They entered the chamber of doctor Roylott. The
Dr sat dead in his chair. Around its head sat a snake. Holmes said that it is was marsh viper and that the doctor in ten
seconds died. When the snake shutted to Holmes. Watson shot the snake. Holmes told to Helen how her sister died.
Your stepfather used the snake whose bite is deathly. The snake had learned to listen to the whistle. And it was easy
to put the snake trough a ventilator, and a rope could help the snake get down and up. When Holmes heard the Ssss
he knew that he was right. By Holmes attack the snake returned to the doctor and killed the snake the doctor.
